Dez Bryant: I’m a passionate player

Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl wide receiver Dez Bryant insists that he is not about to tone down his passionate and emotional approach to the game.

In an exclusive interview that can be seen on Sky Sports during the regular season, Bryant spoke about media criticism that came his way after he walked down the tunnel before the end of a loss to Green Bay in 2013 and how he is often perceived as complaining to quarterback Tony Romo in order to see more of the football.

Bryant, who has caught 185 passes for 2,615 yards and 25 touchdowns over the past two seasons, told me:

“I feel like a lot of guys in the media look at it the wrong way – it’s their job to make a story. The only thing I think about and care about is what my team-mates think. They know it’s all positive and the majority of our guys feed off it. I’m going to continue to keep trying to boost our team because I feel like we need it.

“If you’re flat, you’re going to get killed, plain and simple. You’ll be lucky to win a game. You need some of that emotion, passion and enthusiasm and you need it running all through your locker room.”

Bryant will be a key player for the Cowboys when they take on the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium on Sunday November 9. And he will be hoping for a double celebration as it will be his birthday while in London.

Now in his fifth year, Bryant feels he has reached the upper echelon of NFL receivers and he feels good, old-fashioned hard work has helped him get there.

Bryant said:

“I’ve grown as a receiver by getting into the film room and learning the game a little bit more. In order to be great, you’ve got to put in the work. I feel like I’m an elite wide receiver because of the way I work and because of my production.”

Despite the negative attention that occasionally comes his way, Bryant insists it will not dent his love for American football. And he will continue to demand the very best from his team-mates in Dallas.

Bryant concluded:

“I make it my business to make sure we’re not taking this game for granted. We want to put it all on the line for each other and we just want to win.”

The entire Dez Bryant interview can be seen on Sky Sports during the 2014 NFL season or you can read his comments in the gameday magazine sold at Wembley Stadium in November.
